Rev Cait Finnegan's Profile

She was born in New York City in 1951 to an Irish family who passed to her the ancient love of music and poetry. She learned of her heritage at the knee of her beloved grandmother, Nellie Farrell, who sang to her, in the sean nos, of Irish history, of Faith in God, and the importance of family and love. Faith is a joy, and living it in the CCC is a profound joy in Cait's life. Her clan motto is "To do good, and not to do evil." Her personal motto: "To whom much is given much will be required!"

Cait is a member of the Order of the Merciful Christ, a ecumenical Celtic religious order dedicated to prayer and the corporeal and spiritual works of Mercy. She's a chaplain and spiritual director who works in different healing ministries. She enjoys working with couples in planning their weddings, and helping them make THEIR DAY theirs! Sharing God's Love rather than shoving it down the throat of others!

Cait and her husband Joe have worked in Good Tidings Ministry since 1983. This work has brought them where neither of them expected to go. Their work with Good Tidings has been featured on many TV and radio talk shows, as well as primetime magazine shows and documentaries throughout the United States, Quebec, Ireland, and Australia. Although this ministry deals with the painful matter of clergy abuse, it has touched her life profoundly, and confirmed her convictions that the Church needs prayerful, spiritual priests and religious who are following their call to serve Christ willingly, and not feeling trapped--or entitled within priesthood or religious life This has lead her more deeply into a ministry of spiritual direction with both victims of abuse, as well as with priests and religious, and together, she and Joe and a few others have expanded this ministry to a ministry of spiritual direction and guidance to those populations (sexually abused by clergy, GLBT, the disabled, and priests transitioning from clerical life) who are wounded, ignored or shunned by the Church. It is their mission to share the Good Tidings of God's presence and Love in their lives.

Cait is a musician, by genetic inheritance! She plays several instruments, loves to sing, and writes religious and Irish music, including Celtic Christian hymns. She particularly loves the "sean nos" or traditional music of the Gaels. She has pulled all the songs and hymns together that she's written over the past 30 years into an anthology called: "Ancient Ghosts and Green Heart Songs" as a collection of poems and songs in the Irish tradition telling the tales of family and friends, of history, and of her Faith in Christ. She uses the guitar, piano, tin whistle, and bodhran to give some fullness to the songs, but she says she learned to play them all as "security blankets" to hold when she sang.

In addition to music, Cait has several other interests, including Christian Church history, and producing live internet radio shows. Her shows can be heard on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/celticchristian.htm

She loves liturgy and ritual, gardening, genealogy, Irish history, reading, and cooking--and studying Irish! Oh yes, and she is an animal lover!! She and her husband share their home with many rescued critters who are part of the family.
